The new lobby hours, from 8 a.m. to noon, go into effect May 20.
Postmaster Relief Mandy Heminger said she knew the change was coming eventually – residents at an April 10 meeting were told to expect them by fall – so she was surprised to receive the notice April 17 from Greater Indiana Village Post Office Coordinator Judy Bays.
“A lot of people are a little disappointed about it,” Heminger said this morning.
She added that many people, including herself, had expressed a preference for the four-hour time they were given.
Marion Postmaster Bob Goins, who spoke at the April 10 meeting, said this morning that the Postal Service sped up the timetable for hourly reductions at many locations because of the financial crunch it’s under.
“I’m a little embarrassed,” he remarked, saying he didn’t know the USPS planned to enact the reduced hours so soon.
He added that about 6,000 post offices have had their hours cut to six a day since November, and another 2,000 were cut to four hours.[[In-content Ad]]
