ETNA GREEN - May 2009 will mark the 100th anniversary of the first graduating class from Etna Green School and a group of Etna Green citizens is working hard to create a museum to house Etna Green school and town memorabilia in time for the anniversary.

According to Richard Long, Etna Green Museum committee member, more and more history of the Etna Green School and town are being lost or destroyed for lack of a place to house historical items like basketball uniforms, yearbooks and town memorabilia.

The goal of the museum committee is to create a safe and beautiful place where parents and grandparents can take their children and grandchildren to learn about the history of their town.

The committee recently presented architectural plans to the Etna Green Town Board, which proposed to create an addition to the existing Etna Green Community Building, to house the museum. According to Long, the board approved the plans.

Volunteers already have raised $24,000 toward their $100,000 goal. The committee is seeking an additional $25,000 in public contributions and plans to raise the remaining funds through grants.

Donations for the project can be made to the Etna Green Museum Fund held at the Kosciusko County Community Foundation. For more information about donating, contact the Community Foundation at 574-267-1901. For museum project details, contact Richard Long at 574-267-6069.

Since 1968, Kosciusko County Community Foundation Inc. has brought caring people and charitable endeavors together for the good of the community. The Community Foundation is a public charity, and gifts made to the Foundation are tax-deductible.
