ETNA GREEN - The Etna Green Town Council held the second reading of the town's 2008 budget and approved it.

Funds and amounts are: general, $177,769; local roads and streets, $11,200; park, $8,820; Economic Development Income Tax, $40,000; cumulative capital improvements, $4,000; and motor vehicle highway, $51,500.

Total proposed budget is $293,089.

Old Fashion Days are planned for Sept. 22. This year, the event is sponsored by Indiana Municipal Power Agency and the town of Etna Green.

At Old Fashion Days, there will be activities such as a pet parade and a live performance by The Postmasters. The Lions Club will have a bicycle giveaway, and there will be food vendors.

Mary Lou Dougherty sought permission from the council to move the Etna Green High School class pictures from the hallway of the Heritage Park building into the meeting area and hang them on the north wall. Dougherty will draw up a basic layout of where the pictures will be and present it in October.

The council approved a motion to provide the alumni with the materials needed.

Council member Keith Claassen made a motion to make a change in the rental agreement that nothing may be removed from the walls of the Heritage Park building after the re-arrangement. He was concerned about some of the historic objects being broken. The motion was approved.

Paul Bedics from the Rebel Rouser Car Club sought approval from the council to rent part of the park for a car show on Oct. 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Depending on how this car show goes, Bedics would like to try and make it part of the Old Fashioned Days in the future. The council approved the request.

R.B. Conley went before the council representing former basketball players from the Etna Green High School who are planning a basketball tribute reception Sept. 29 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Heritage Park. Conley requested the rental fee for use of Heritage Park be waived due to this being an open reception and free. The council approved his request.

The Marshall County Junior Football League presented the council with proof of insurance and a list of things they would like to install or use during games and practices.

They requested the council maintain the grass at the field and the buildings. They also requested the council come up with an agreeable length of time they could continue using the park for games and practices.

The council again tabled the final decision until they make sure that all things are in order to approve the use of Heritage Park.

Jean Price requested permission to hold a block party on Oct. 6 on Railroad Street from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. There also will be a hog roast and karaoke for the residents of the street. The request was approved.[[In-content Ad]]
