NAPPANEE – Esther Hochstetler Schmucker, 90, died at 1:21 a.m. May 5, 2011, in LuAnn Nursing Home, Nappanee, where she resided.
She was born April 9, 1921, in Midland, Mich., to Jacob E. and Joanna Helmuth Miller. On Nov. 15, 1945, she married John Henry Hochstetler, who died Oct. 1, 1952. On Aug. 17, 1974, she married Joe E. Schmucker, who died Oct. 21, 1994.
She was a winter resident of Pinecraft in Florida for more than 30 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Old Order Amish Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ellen (and spouse Glenn) Mullett, Nappanee; two sons, Mervin Jay Hochstetler, Sarasota, Fla., and Delbert Lee “Bert” (and spouse Elli) Hochstetler, Nappanee; two stepdaughters, Marie (and spouse Daniel) Fisher, Middlefield, Ohio, and Kathryn (and spouse Harvey) Miller, Cub Run, Ky.; three stepsons, Samuel (and spouse Ada) Schmucker and Delbert (and spouse Fannie) Schmucker, all of Mio, Mich., and John Henry (and spouse Minnie) Schmucker, Pennsylvania; 16 grandchildren; 59 step-grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and more than 100 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, a granddaughter, two brothers and seven sisters.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Everett Hochstetler residence, 13996 N. CR 1050W, with Home Ministry officiating. Burial will be in Weldy Cemetery.
Calling is after 2 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday at the Matthew Schmucker’s residence, 5292 E. County Line Road, Bremen.
Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee is in charge of arrangements.
