NORTH MANCHESTER - Ernest W. Penrod, 84, of Sebring, Fla., and formerly of North Manchester, died at 9:34 a.m. Aug. 10, 2010, in Highland Regional Medical Center, Sebring.

He was born Jan. 11, 1926, in Wabash County, to Ernest C. and Hazel Mae Ditton Penrod. On Feb. 7, 1948, he married Marjory A. Rudig, who survives.

He retired in 1989 after 32 years with Eric-Lackawana and Conrail railroad companies. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and attended Grace Brethren Church, Sebring, and formerly attended Missionary Church, North Manchester. He was a member of Gideon's International.

Also surviving are three daughters: Mika E. (and spouse Tim) Martin, South Point, Ohio; Cheryl L. (and spouse Bruce) Moore, California, Ky.; and Tamara A. Penrod, Sebring; two sisters, Maxine Ruppel, North Manchester, and Louise (and spouse Eldred) Metzger, Claypool; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor Dan Binkley officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Calling is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
