He was born Oct. 14, 1921, in Claypool, to Merl and Anna Shepherd Rowland. On May 19, 1941, in Claypool, he married Phyllis Hoover, who survives.
A lifetime Claypool resident, he retired from farming in 2004. He was a member of Claypool United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau; and the board of directors for the Miami Valley Milk Producers Association. He enjoyed visits from his children and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sons, Dennis (and spouse Pam) Rowland and Roger (and spouse Sandy) Rowland, all of Claypool; a daughter, Avis (and spouse Carl "Hub") Wilkinson, Goshen; a brother, Duane (and spouse Mary Louise) Rowland, South Whitley; two sisters, Evelyn Clark, Springfield, Ohio, and Patricia Baker, Akron; seven grandchildren: Missy (and spouse Vince) Wynn, Elkhart; Tina (and spouse Scott) Mauer, Goshen; Greg (and spouse Kassi) Rowland, Warsaw; Travis Rowland, Claypool; Amy (and spouse Jason) Slone, Silver Lake; and Brian Wilkinson and Darren (and spouse Karena) Wilkinson, all of Syracuse; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Arlene Juday, Colleen Bouse and Marjorie Rhoades.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastors Evelyn Taylor Haney and Duane Kline of Claypool United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
