She was born May 26, 1916, in Calhoun County, Mich., to Alfred A. and Emma V. Black Gardner. On Aug. 18, 1940, she married the Rev. Robert Ebey, who died Sept. 27, 2009.
She was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren, North Manchester. She graduated from Battle Creek (Mich.) High School in 1934 and Manchester College in 1939, where she received a bachelor's degree in elementary education. An elementary school teacher for 25 years, she retired in 1981. She and her husband served churches in Puerto Rico, Michigan and Indiana. She resided at Timbercrest Senior Living Community since 1991, where she was an active volunteer.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary Ebey, Greenville, Ohio; Alice (and spouse Douglas) Archer, South Bend; and Esther Ebey (and Wayne Barnard), Hinton, Va. She was preceded in death by a brother.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Timbercrest Chapel, North Manchester, with Pastor Kurt Borgmann officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.
