Elsie Marie Eisenbraun, 98, of Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, died at 12:05 p.m. Feb. 14, 2013, in Grace Village Healthcare. She was born Jan. 9, 1915, in China, to Henry Cornelius and Nellie Schmidt Bartel. On Aug. 31, 1947, in China, she married Pastor Max Eisenbraun, who died in 1985. A resident of Kosciusko County for the past 34 years, she was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant View Bible Church, Warsaw. A child of missionary parents, she came to the United States and completed her education at Wheaton College, Illinois. She returned to China after World War II. Moving to the United States in 1949, she served as a pastor’s wife at a number of churches in the Midwest. She taught elementary school for several years prior to retiring to Warsaw in 1979. Surviving are five sons: James (and spouse Merna) Eisenbraun, Warsaw; Paul (and spouse Maria) Eisenbraun, Austin, Texas; David (and spouse Debbie) Eisenbraun, St. Louis, Mo.; Tom (and spouse Kim) Eisenbraun, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and John (and spouse Laurie) Eisenbraun, Union Lake, Mich.; two daughters, Hedy Eisenbraun Reese, Harrisonburg, Va., and Ruth (and spouse Tom) Kinney, Redstone, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jonathan (and spouse Alice) Bartel, Salida, Colo. She also was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 23 at Grace Village Retirement Community Chapel, Winona Lake, officiated by Jim Eisenbraun. A private graveside service will be at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. No calling is planned.
