Ellen J. Prater, 79, of Warsaw, died at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 11, 2012, in her residence.

She was born July 8, 1932, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Leonard and Audria Manuel Adams. On Oct. 7, 1950, in Silver Lake, she married  Howard J. Prater, who preceded her in death.

Living most of her life in Kosciusko County, she was a packer at Kimble Glass for 20 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of God’s Highway to Heaven and attended New Vision Church, both in Warsaw. She sang with The Happy Four Gospel Singers. She enjoyed baking and cooking and made lots of sweets at Christmas and freezer jam in the summer. She enjoyed crocheting, planting flowers, collecting chimes playing card games and watching the Game Show Network. Most of all she was a great mom and grandmother.

Surviving are two daughters, Sheila Shepherd and Janette (and spouse Adam) Sheets, all of Warsaw; two sons, Donald (and spouse Lynda) Prater, Winona Lake, and David (and spouse Samantha) Prater, Warsaw; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Joe Adams, Warsaw, and Lawrence (and spouse Deloris) Adams, Winona Lake. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Ellen Fay VanDyke; four brothers, Leonard, William, Paul and Lacie Adams; and a sister, Emma Jean Shepherd.

Services will be at noon Friday at God’s Highway to Heaven, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Bob Brown, of God’s Highway to Heaven, and Bishop Richard Campbell of New Vision Church, both in Warsaw. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.

Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
