Elkins Travels To Africa

The course, taught by professor Jim Kelly, is offered in Summer Session I and features travel to Eldoret and Nairobi, Kenya, May 21 to June 14. The class work introduces students to the basic pathology of HIV/AIDS, with a specific emphasis on the epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa.
Students also will learn about the culture of East Africa and about the media system in Kenya. While in Eldoret for three weeks, students will be assigned to teams with communication students from Moi University to report on health care topics in the area, with special attention on the various programs of IU-Kenya Partnership's AMPATH project.[[In-content Ad]]Students will complete several stories, both print and multimedia formats, during their time in Africa.
Elkins is a 2005 Warsaw Community High School graduate. She received her bachelor's degree in journalism in 2010 from Indiana University, with a minor in tourism management.
