Elkhart Civic Theatre Presents 'Leading Ladies'

By Staff Report-

BRISTOL - Think Dustin Hoffman in "Tootsie".

Think Robin Williams in "Mrs. Doubtfire".

Think Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in "Some Like It Hot".

Now think Rick Ellis and Scott Fowler in "Leading Ladies".

The upcoming Elkhart Civic Theatre production of "Leading Ladies," Ken Ludwig's latest farce, includes everything for which audiences howl (with laughter): mistaken identities, guys in gals' clothing, mismatched pairs and a plotline that defies logic.

Ludwig, the author of "Lend Me a Tenor", "Moon Over Buffalo" and "Crazy for You" is a master of the art of farce. Here he puts two out-of-work British actors on the edge of theatrical frustration - not to mention starvation - in Pennsylvania's Amish country. Their chance to strike it rich comes via a personal ad seeking two long lost British nephews to whom a very old lady wishes to leave her fortune. They are on the hunt when a typographical error nearly brings down the curtain. The old lady is seeking nieces, not nephews. Undaunted, the duo shifts from pants to petticoats and - relatively speaking - the race is on!

Under the direction of John Hutchings, Bridgette Greene, Stephanie Musser, Karen Johnston, Ricky Fields, Daniel Johnson and Carl Wiesinger join Ellis and Fowler in the "Leading Ladies" cast.

Performances of "Leading Ladies" will be at 8 p.m. April 23, 24, 30 and May 1; and 3 p.m. April 25 and May 2 at the Bristol Opera House, 210 E. Vistula St., Bristol.

Tickets are $13 for adults and $11 for students and senior citizens age 62 and older. For reservations, call 574-848-4116 between 1 and 5:30 p.m. weekdays.

The Elkhart Civic Theatre 2009-2010 Season is underwritten by Gaska Tape Inc., the Indiana Arts Commission-with funding from the State of Indiana and the National Endowment for the Arts-and the Elkhart County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Media partners for the 2009-10 Season are ABC57, CW25, MyMichiana Channel 69, B100 and WTRC Radio.[[In-content Ad]]For more information about "Leading Ladies" or other Elkhart Civic Theatre programming, call the theater at 574-848-5853 or visit www.elkhartcivictheatre.org
