July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
By Staff Report-
Jessica Hardy’s workshops are always popular, and since enrollment is limited to 10 students, interested actors are encouraged to sign up early.
While improv is known primarily to produce laughter, it can also be a great tool for actors, according to a press release provided by the theater. Improv for Actors will teach improv practices and tools that can enhance the actor’s range and help with character work. The class will involve participation in scene work and games. Students will also explore some “industry secret” audition tools and a fresh approach to entering an audition room.
All students will be required to participate. No spectators will be permitted. This workshop is an excellent chance to grow, learn and have fun with fellow actors, the release states.
Cost for the workshop is $20 per person. Students should be 18 and over with basic theater experience. Registration is by phone only: Call 574-848-4116 weekdays between 1 and 5:30 p.m.
Hardy was raised in Elkhart and performed several shows with the Elkhart Civic Theatre where she grew her acting wings. After obtaining her degree from Indiana University, she moved to Chicago and graduated from the Second City conservatory of Chicago in 2005.
She worked for The Second City Youth Program for three years while she pursued her acting and writing career in Chicago. There she performed at the Apollo Theater Chicago, Chicago Sketchfest, The Second City Skybox, The Viaduct Theater, Improv Playhouse, Strawdog Theater and more.
She has co-produced three feature comedy films with husband Brent Kado, and in 2010 she founded the Chicago Comedy Film Festival. She has appeared in a viral beauty campaign for Dove as well as worked on shows such as “Mad Men,” “Trophy Wife,” “Criminal Minds,” “Parenthood,” “Glee” and “Growing Up Fisher.” She now resides in Los Angeles and is assistant directing the Los Angeles-based kids show “Sitcom at the Neon Venus Theater” in Hollywood.
Following the workshop, Hardy will be a celebrity judge for ECT’s Comedy Criminals Improv Festival and Competition.[[In-content Ad]]
