BOURBON – Elizabeth “Libby” Marshall, 91, of Bourbon, passed away at 1:10 p.m. Aug. 26, 2011, in her residence. She was in failing health.

She was born Aug. 2, 1920, in Bluffton, to the Rev. George and Zoa French Snider. In November 1950, she married Jonathan Shakes Marshall, who died Nov. 18, 1980.

She was a retired nurse. However, she never really retired as she was known as being the “Ask a Nurse” of Bourbon. She was always willing to help those in need with medical questions. She retired from Parkview Hospital, Plymouth, and had worked and taught as a clinical instructor in medical nursing at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, and Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. She was so passionate about her career that she was providing a private scholarship for two Triton graduates who are pursuing careers in nursing. She also was a partner in el-Mar-co Kwik Knit Shop, Bourbon, with her friend, Marjorie Cook. Her service to the community was varied as she served on the Marshall County Cancer Board, American Red Cross Nurse Corps, Bourbon Public Library Board and Marshall County Historical Society Board. She was even a past Blueberry Parade Marshall. She was a graduate of Kokomo High School n 1948 and Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Indianapolis. She was charter organist of Kokomo’s Job’s Daughters and for a while pianist for the Bourbon Eastern Star. Most people’s memory of her was for the more than 60 years of faithfully playing the organ at The Bourbon First United Methodist Church as well as the many weddings and funerals she was asked to provide music for.

Surviving are a step-niece, Deborah (and spouse Steve) Calhoun, Plymouth; a step-nephew, David (and spouse Mary) Swihart, Goshen; cousins, Roger (and spouse Annabelle) French, Fort Wayne, and Murian Burniworth, Huntington; and many very close friends of the community. She was preceded in death by her best friend and sister, Mary Jane Swihart.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bourbon First United Methodist Church with the Rev Stormy Scherer-Berry officiating. Burial will be in Parks Cemetery, Bourbon.
