NORTH WEBSTER – Elizabeth Jane “Ebby” Leach, 92, North Webster, passed away at 2:15 p.m. March 23, 2016 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse, where she resided since 2008.
She was born April 6, 1923, in Andrews, to Walter Irvin and Lela Mae Bare Gradeless. On April 17, 1949, in Pierceton, she married Harold A. Leach, who preceded her in death in 1995.
She graduated in 1942 from Chester High School in North Manchester and received her licensed practical nurse degree at Marion College (Indiana Wesleyan University) in Marion. She grew up in Huntington County and moved to the North Webster area in 1960 from Wabash. She worked as a nurse for the V.A. Hospital, Fort Wayne, for many years.
She was a member of the Church of God in North Webster and former member of the Backwater Friends Home Economic Club. She enjoyed reading, gardening and attending church.
She is survived by nine nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews, and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Alice Rodgers; one son, Walter Leach; two sisters, Illa Stentsel and Rebecca Gradeless; two brothers, Charles and Harmon Gradeless; one stepsister, Martha Menzie; and two step brothers, Charles and Marion Collier.
Services will be at noon Monday at Owen Family Funeral Home, North Manchester, with Pastors Jeff Boyer and Tim Jones of the church officiating. Burial will be in Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery.
Calling is from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.
