SYRACUSE - Eli S. Kauffman, 76, formerly of Syracuse, died at 4:45 a.m. March 30, 2008, in Peoria, Ariz., where he resided, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Nov. 4, 1931, in Amboy, to Samuel and Fannie Kauffman. He married Virginia Gilbert, who survives.

Moving to Peoria from Syracuse, he was a truck driver for more than 40 years, and a security officer for the last eight years. He attended The Door, Christian Fellowship, Glensdale, Ariz., and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Also surviving are five sons, Donald, Denny and Bob Kauffman and Christopher and Jason Martindale; seven daughters, Julie Anne Dorrier, Elizabeth Morgan, Debra Schisler, Mary Martindale, Susan Warkentin, Cynthia Clark and Carol Hernandez; 34 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, nine other siblings, a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse, with Pastor Patrick Blevins officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery.

Calling is one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
