Election Apathy

Here we are at election time again, plus budget time, too. I was hoping that everyone would go and vote even though there were not many running in our county. Hmmmm, it makes an individual wonder why.

We have a two-party system and have had it for many years.  We occasionally have some independents that run during a few of the past elections.

The question to be asked is “Why?” Why, if we have a two-party system, that there are not more individuals who don’t run for office. Some say why should I. I tell them I won’t win because I’m not the party who is the majority that runs the county or local governments. This has become true not only in our state, county or local governments. It is this way all over the United States.

I don’t believe there is any real way to correct this problem.  So it will never change. We as Americans are just going to have to live with those who keep running until they either retire, decided they have had enough or they plain just move.

Then we wonder why we have these individuals with the 9-12, the Occupy groups, and many other groups who are trying to change things. They can try, but will it change? We will have to wait and see. Americans, our hands are tied.

We need to be more like the lady who took on Bank of America and was able to get the fee taken off for just using your debit card. Wake-up! She was one person who did this, but only with the help of those signing a petition.

Our rights as Americans are slowly being taken away. Why do I say this – we don’t have free speech other than me writing this letter to the editors (but it is their choice whether they will print it). There is so much that goes on in the United States, your state, your local government, and overseas that you will never know about in your lifetime.

The saying that rich get richer and the poorer get poorer is even truer today than it was 20 years ago. Stop and think where you were 20 years ago for those of you in your 40s. We could actual have a budget and know that when went to the grocery store we good spend within our means (what we had budgeted).  Can you do that now? No way! You don’t know from week to week but you’re going to be able to get on your list.

Then there are the gas prices. How many of you wonder if you’re going to have enough gas to get back and forth to work each week? Or what are you going to give up this week to buy gas – will it be some groceries, or medicine, or even going to the doctor?

Well, I don’t know about you, but this family is tired of the all the individuals who were voted into office who can’t even think of the middle class (oh – wait is there still a middle class?) let alone the poor to make the proper decisions while they are in office.

They don’t have to worry they have good jobs or are retired that sit on town councils so they don’t have to worry about how they spend the taxpayers money. Same thing up in Washington. The Republicans can keep stopping the bills from going through the same way the Democrats can. It’s like they are on the playground and they have drawn a line and saying don’t cross this or else.

People are struggle but they don’t care. If they did they would act on some thing to get the United States out of this mess.

Those of you who believe that we are not in a recession now, just look in your checkbook, what savings you have left, or if you still have a retirement account. You got it – it’s still going on.

Yes, we hear of 200 jobs coming to an area, but there might be 300 jobs leaving another area just 50 miles away. Then you go to apply or go to a job fair – not hundreds show up but thousands.

All I can say is, Americans keep praying!
