SYRACUSE - Effie E. Hickman, 98, of North Webster, died at 11:52 a.m. May 22, 2010, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

She was born March 6, 1912, in Shipshewana, to Delbert E. and Blanche Kreighbaum Hill. On Oct. 29, 1932, in Warsaw, she married Orville F. Wagner, who died Jan. 20, 1989. On April 5, 1994, in Warsaw, she then married E. Dale Hickman, who died Nov. 24, 2000.

She was a homemaker and formerly worked at Penn Controls, Goshen, and Boris-Smoler Dress Shop, Elkhart. She attended Jefferson Township Schools, Elkhart. She moved to the Syracuse/North Webster area in 1994 from Elkhart where she had lived for 60 years. She was a member of North Webster Church of the Brethren and Lakeland Kiwanis Club, North Webster, and a former member and past president of Veterans Of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 985, Goshen; Barbee Conservation Club; and Barbee Hoosier Club. She was a former member of the Home Extension Club, North Webster, and North Webster Church of God.

Surviving are two daughters, Edna M. Lawson, Leesburg, and Betty L. (and spouse Raymond) Stander, Dunkirk; two sons, Paul L. (and spouse Sally) Wagner, Elkhart, and Arthur L. (and spouse Elaine) Wagner, Granger; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Swinehart, Syracuse; and a brother, John Lorene (and spouse Klara) Hill, North Webster. She was preceded in death by a daughter, a grandson, two sisters and four brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastors Dennis Judy and Bob Wyman officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
