Edward J. Lyons Sr., 75, of 61 EMS W23 Lane, North Webster, died at 10:07 p.m. Feb. 2, 2008, in his residence.

He was born July 19, 1932, in Blue Island, Ill., to Robert J. and Isabelle Roan Lyons. On Aug. 4, 1952, in Chicago, Ill., he married Mary J. Schramek, who died May 10, 2006.

He lived most of his life in the Chicago area, moving to North Webster after retirement. He was a union business agent for the Carpenters Union Local 62, Chicago, Ill. He was elected as a trustee and served as the police commissioner in Posen, Ill. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago, Ill., and the American Legion Post 253, North Webster. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Surviving are three daughters, Shirley Lyons, Mary Mallory and Cindy Braatz, all of North Webster; three sons; Edward Jr., Robert and George Lyons, all of North Webster; a sister, Gert Samojedny, Oak Forest, Ill.;14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Jeff Pfeifer officiating. A private burial will be at a later date.

Calling is from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
