He was born Oct. 20, 1934, in Elkhart, to Willard F. and Esther Dierks Charlton. On June 24, 1956, in Leesburg, he married Sue Yvonne Albert, who survives.
He was a resident of Milford until moving to Leesburg in 1956. He was co-owner of Snyder Marathon Oil from 1960-73, and was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Post Service for Leesburg from 1973-97. He was past president, secretary and a 50-year member of Leesburg Lions Club; a 50-year member of Kosciusko Masonic Lodge 418; a member of Scottish Rite - Fort Wayne Valley; and past patron of Order of the Eastern Star. He drove a school bus for Plain Township and Warsaw Community School Corp., retiring from the Leesburg Fire Dept., and was a Leesburg Little League coach in the 1970s. He also was involved in Leesburg community activities and Leesburg Cemetery Board.
He was dedicated to his family and community.
Also surviving are three sons: Scott (and spouse Vonnie), Warsaw; Craig, Leesburg; and Clark (and spouse Monica), Hendersonville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren: Tyler and Saber, Madison and Mason and Austin, Elaina and Graham.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Jessie Beer officiating. Burial will be in Leesburg Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. by members of Kosciusko Masonic Lodge 418.
