Education Key

In any successful business, various departments or divisions are required to work together in order to effectively meet client needs.
A similar coordination is necessary to help protect our greatest asset - our young people who grow up to become the future workforce and community leaders. Today, the K-12, higher education and workforce development systems often work in silos. This cannot continue if we are to provide the educational environment our people need and deserve.
That is only one of the key points the Indiana Chamber board of directors makes in its latest policy statement - this one on education. Our Letters to Our Leaders project is focused on injecting discussion of key issues into the campaign for governor and the public debate.
More than a quarter of Indiana students leave high school without a diploma. We are obviously capable of doing much better than this. Placing blame is not the answer; the proper course includes all of us working together, with strong leadership from the top levels of state government.
Administration reforms, efficiency measures, a reshaping of longstanding funding, methods and ensuring that teachers are properly prepared and paid for their performance are among the next steps. Please take the time to read the Chamber letter, view the short video and share your opinions at www.indianachamber.com/letters
