Klondaris Earns Silver A

CULVER - Kristofer Klondaris, the son of Michael Klondaris and Dr. Lena Fermbach, earned a Silver A award at the Culver Academies.

Attained with a grade point average of 3.2 or better, the award is the second highest academic honor available during combined grading terms.

Kristofer also plays on the school's soccer team, is a member of the Color Honor Guard and performing drill team, and the second discus thrower for the boys track team. He is a junior.

Two Earn Music Awards

Recently, two Wawasee High School students in the choral department went to the Indiana School Music Association's contest in Indianapolis.

Bea Eisenhour came away with the highest honor, receiving a gold medal on her vocal solo.

Lance Lannen also participated, and received a silver medal on his vocal solo.

Akbar Selected As Finalist

ATLANTA, Ga. - Kaveh Akbar, a senior from Warsaw Community High School, will start college with the help of Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Indiana and The Coca-Cola Co. Akbar was selected as a scholarship finalist from a field of more than 2,100 semifinalists by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation based on academic excellence, school leadership and community activities.

Akbar is one of 250 high school seniors selected nationwide to compete for a cash scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. On April 12, Akbar will join other finalists as they travel to Atlanta, Ga., the headquarters for The Coca-Cola Co., for the Scholars Weekend to compete for 50 four-year college scholarships of $20,000 and 200 four-year scholarships of $10,000. Over the four-day weekend, the finalists will interview with a National Selection Committee, tour the city, meet with former Coca-Cola scholars, and participate in a range of activities, including a community service project. Additionally, the 2007 Class of Coca-Cola Scholars will be recognized at a banquet hosted by Coca-Cola, educators, local dignitaries and friends of the Scholars Foundation.

Scholarship Deadline Approaches

INDIANAPOLIS - The deadline for the 16th annual William M. Evans Scholarship award is approaching. Applicants must have their applications postmarked by March 16.

The William M. Evans Scholarship award honors the memory of Bose McKinney & Evans founding partner Bill Evans.

The $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to an Indiana special education student who is pursuing post-secondary education in 2007-08 by attending a university, college, junior college or vocational training program. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of personal achievement, future goals and financial need.

Candidates must be Indiana residents who currently are enrolled in the senior class of an Indiana public high school and classified as a special education student. Applications for the 2007 scholarship are available through the offices of all Indiana Directors of Special Education or through Bose McKinney & Evans Web site at www.boselaw.com/groups/scholarship.shtml

Preschoolers Invited

PIERCETON - Preschool children and their parents are invited to learn what a child needs to know to be a successful kindergartner.

You will see the movie "The Polar Express," listen to music, and do fun activities that go along with the movie. There also will be snacks.

The session is March 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pierceton Elementary School gym. Park in the south parking lot.

Wawasee Holds College Meeting

SYRACUSE - The Wawasee High School Guidance Department is holding a meeting for parents of college-bound juniors. Parents can get information on college admissions, financial aid and career planning. Leslie Augustyniak, assistant director of admissions for Manchester College, will be the guest speaker. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the Wawasee High School lecture room.

Enrollment Set

Parents who wish to enroll their children in the Kids' Country Preschool program should mark their calendars now.

March 22 will be the open house and enrollment night from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The preschool offers classes for 3- and 4-year-olds and a pre-kindergarten class. Children should be 3 years of age by July 1 to enroll in the 3- and 4-year-old class, and 4 by July 1 to enroll in the pre-kindergarten classes.

Bring your children with you, meet the teachers, and learn about programs. Kids' Country Preschool is 3 miles north of Bourbon on Ind. 331 and is a mission of The County Church.

Optimists Enroll Students

Wednesday and Thursday, the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club will enroll students in the SafeAssured ID program at Sacred Heart Elementary School during school hours.

The enrollment consists of taking a digital photograph, a digital video of the youngster walking and speaking, and digital fingerprints of all 10 fingers, as well as the personal data that would be needed to assist in locating the youth should they turn up missing. All of the personal data is encrypted so that only a police agency can decode the data should the youth be missing. The ID kits are provided to the parents without charge. However, the Optimists do appreciate contributions to help defray the $10 cost of the kits.

So far there have been nearly 800 Kosciusko County students enrolled.
