Scholarships Available At Triton

BOURBON - Triton seniors, as well as alumni who currently are attending a college, may be eligible to apply for local Triton Scholarships.

Applications for these scholarships now are available on the Triton Web site at www.triton.k12.in.us Follow the link to Triton Junior-Senior High School, and then select the appropriate form to fill out, the current graduating senior form or the alumni form. Both forms are available in either a Microsoft Word file or a PDF file for those who do not have Microsoft Word on their computers.

The Microsoft Word file will allow users to fill it out on the computer and then print it. If using the PDF file, the user can print the blank application and then fill it out manually.

Applications also will be mailed upon request by calling 574-342-6505 and asking for Karen Worsham. The application deadline is April 15.

EMS Scholarship Available

The Edgewood Middle School Scholarship was started as a way to reward outstanding male and female senior students on a job well done.

The scholarship is for individuals in the top 50 percent of their class who are very active in school and/or the community, or involved in their church or place of work. Candidates should be individuals who are good citizens and give back to their community and school in a variety of ways. Candidates should have good attendance at school and place of employment, enjoy leadership roles and project a positive attitude.

To be eligible for this one-time scholarship, the applicant must: Have attended EMS for two complete years; be a current graduating senior at a Warsaw area high school; be accepted to a post-secondary institution; be in the top 50 percent of their class; complete standard application, no financial information required; complete the essay; submit a current school transcript; attach a letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach or counselor; attach a letter from your employer if applicable; no photo needed.

Applications are available at the EMS front desk and the Warsaw Community High School guidance office.

Application deadline is April 1. Submit them to EMS office.

Silver Lake Lions Club Scholarship

SILVER LAKE - A yearly grant of up to $500 will be awarded. The Silver Lake Lions Club reserves the right to split the scholarship money between two or more people.

Factors considered in awarding the scholarship include community involvement, church involvement, school activities, financial need and applicant's educational goals, etc.

The award will be presented to a student who attended Silver Lake School and currently resides in Lake, Clay, Seward or Jackson townships in Kosciusko County, or Pleasant Township in Wabash County.

The applicant must be a graduate of Warsaw Community High School, Tippecanoe Valley High School, Whitko Community High School or Manchester Community High School.

Any student pursuing their education may apply. This includes a student currently enrolled in any college or vocational school.

A copy of the applicant's transcript and scholarship fact sheet must be submitted. Also, in letter form, applicants must submit tentative plans and needs along with two letters of recommendations from a minister, employer, teacher or professor, and one from applicant's choice.

A panel of individuals picked by the Silver Lake Lions Club will choose the winner of this award. The panel reserves the right to refuse any and all applications.

The selection committee reserves the right to interview any or all applicants.

The recipient(s) of this scholarship will be notified by mail. If the recipient(s) is/are currently a college or vocational student, he or she also will be notified in writing form from the scholarship committee.

Applications are available at the high school guidance office, or may be obtained by contacting any member of the Silver Lake Lions Club. All applications and information must be completed and mailed to the person below by April 1. No applications will be accepted after the deadline. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Registration At Akron Elementary

AKRON - Akron Elementary School will hold kindergarten registration for the 2007-08 school year on March 12 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Students attending kindergarten during the 2007-08 school year must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1.

A birth certificate and shot records are required when the child is registered. Also, bring their Social Security card.

Child care will be provided for parents with young children.

Early registration for kindergarten students is critical in planning for next year's kindergarten program. If you have a child to be enrolled, but are unable to attend registration, contact the Akron Elementary School office at 574-893-4646 prior to March 12.

The kindergarten registration program will last approximately one hour.

Warsaw Schools Beginning Band Has Sign-Up Today, Thursday

Warsaw Community Schools Band Department is scheduling instrument fittings for 2007-08 seventh-grade beginning band members for both Edgewood and Lakeview middle schools.

The instrument fittings will be held at Warsaw Community High School in the New Performing Arts Center today and Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Students enrolling in seventh-grade band will need to make an appointment for a fitting. Contact Lori Owens in the WCHS music office at 574-371-5037 to schedule an appointment. Students need to be accompanied by a parent to the fitting.

Directors Joseph Peloza, Tammy Sprunger, Mickey Ratliff and Matthew Gratton will be available to help students with their instrument choices and answer questions. A Blessing Music Store representative also will be available to assist parents with instrument rental or purchase arrangements.
