ELWOOD - Edgar E. Phillips, 85, formerly of Elwood, died July 28, 2007, in University Place, Gainesville, Fla.

He was born Jan. 11, 1922, in Elwood, to Everett and Margaret Miller Phillips. On May 31, 1942, he married Rosalie Scott, who died Nov. 28, 2003.

He moved to Yellow Creek Lake, Kosciusko County, after retirement, and moved to Florida 10 years ago. A staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Engineers during World War II, he was in the invasion of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland in central Europe. He was with the Elwood Fire Department from 1954-77, serving as fire chief from 1968-72. He was former owner of Elwood Fire Equipment Co. He was a former member of First Baptist Church, Elwood; Yellow Creek Conservation Club; and Warsaw Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Vicki) McArthur, Gainesville; a sister, Martha Lambertson, Elwood; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, with the Rev. Dr. John Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Elwood City Cemetery with a military graveside service by members of Elwood VFW Post 5782 and Frankton American Legion Post.
