East Noble Sweeps Wawasee In Track Opener

SYRACUSE – Wawasee’s two track teams each lost close contests to East Noble Tuesday night at Warrior Field. The boys score was 69-62 and the girls 72-60.
Cole VanLue was a double winner, taking the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Other winners for the Warriors were Brady Robinson in the pole vault, Paul Mendoza in the long jump, the 4x800 relay team of Spencer Hare, Sam Griner, Ben Hoffert and Luke Griner, and the 4x400 relay team of Dylan Hepler, VanLue, Hare and Luke Griner.
“We had a lot of athletes step up and they nearly pulled (the win) off,” said Wawasee head coach Scott Lancaster. “Cole VanLue was exceptional. His 100 and 200 times were both at mid-season quality.
“We had nice surprises by Paul Mendoza in the long jump and Brady Robinson in the pole vault. The team made East Noble earn every point.”
Hannah-Marie Lamle was a double winner for the Lady Warriors, winning the 100 and 300 hurdles. Alexis Manges won the discus for Wawasee, with Elizabeth Zorn winning the 800, Sarah Lancaster the 200 and the 4x400 relay team of Adriene Gill, Skylar Janda, Kelsey Swartz and Lamle winning as well.
“The girls did an outstanding job of competing tonight,” Lancaster said. “the score was close and a couple of bad breaks was the difference. It was nice to see the girls battle and it was needed to pick up the critical second and third places to give us a chance.”
The teams’ next meet Monday when Columbia City comes to Syracuse.
