He was born Sept. 25, 1918, in Wabash County, to Foster and Eathel Drudge Hoffman. On April 13, 1942, in Nappanee, he married Donabelle Sheets, who survives.
He worked at Sonoco Products Co., Akron, for 26 years, retiring in 1981. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and a lifetime member of Silver Creek Church of God. He was a loyal fan to the Akron High School and Tippecanoe Valley High School basketball teams, and was an avid fan of the Indiana Hoosiers and Chicago Cubs. He loved to fish and camp at Barr Lake.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sharon (and spouse Hugh) Hartz, Culver, and Connie (and spouse Dennis) Helvey, South Whitley; six grandchildren: Jeff and Troy Hartz, Todd Helvey, Talisha Herendeen, Trina Semler and Trista Brubaker; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Emogene Diane, Akron; and two brothers, Earl (and spouse Genelle) Hoffman, Akron, and Edward (and spouse Martha) Hoffman, Claypool. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elvin Hoffman.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Silver Creek Church of God, Silver Lake, with Pastor Thomas Craig officiating. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery, Silver Lake, with graveside military rites by members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Rochester.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron.
