LARWILL - Duane E. Hawn, 80, formerly of Larwill, died Aug. 13, 2010, in The Laurels of Dekalb, where he was a resident since Jan. 12.

He was born Oct. 3, 1929, in Marion, to John Franklin and Pauline Bauserman Hawn. In 1949, he married Herta Wilhelmine Fischer, who died Sept. 17, 2000.

As a young boy, his family moved to Richland Township. On Sept. 16, 1948, he enlisted in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge Sept. 15, 1951, they returned to the Larwill area.

He was employed at Farmer's Elevator, South Whitley; Brunwick Boat Co., Warsaw; Harvestore and Parker Inc., both of Silver Lake; and retired from Swihart Grain Co., Silver Lake. He was a member of AmVets Post 2919, South Whitley.

Surviving are a son, Raimund Hawn, South Whitley; two sisters, Retha Cluster, Butler, and Margaret "Peg" Yoder, Garrett; and three brothers: Darrell Hawn, Garrett; Marion "Manny" Hawn, Rome City; and Kerwin "Kirby" Hawn, Hudson. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. The committal service will be at noon Aug. 21 at Lakeview Cemetery, Larwill, with military honors presented.

Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
