Drug Use

My name is Dustin Pruitt. I’m currently serving time in the Kosciusko County Jail. I got sentenced back in November 2011 to a two-year do one-year sentence. I was breaking in to cars to support my heroin/meth habit. I kept my drug use a secret for three and a half years from family and close friends; or at least I thought I was keeping a secret.
I started using heroin back in 2009. It was offered to me at a party. Shortly after being introduced to heroin, meth came along in the summer of 2009. Once being introduced to this drug I fell in love with the drug, not thinking three and a half years later I would be addicted to both of those substances.
The people in society are so quick to put a label on someone else when they find out a person is doing these drugs. It’s been a long three and a half years to finally come to my senses. Since being in jail, I’ve had a lot of time to think about the choices I was making. I’ve got four children that need their dad back sober and to be there for them like a father is supposed to be. I’m not being much of a role model being in jail.
Since being in Kosciusko County Jail I've been going to A.A./N.A./C.M.A. classes and its been a really good experience for myself. However, I’ve got four months left on my sentence before being released back in to society. When I leave the jail I’m not going to be living in Kosciusko County. I’m going to be in Elkhart County.
Since I’m new to this sobriety again, I was curious if anyone out there that reads this knows any places in or around Nappanee that had the 12-step meetings. This journey of sobriety has been a blessing to me and I plan on continuing my journey once being released. From jail, I know I’ve got a long road ahead of me, but I’m up to any challenge that God bring my way.
Also, I want to let my children know I love and miss them – Marshall, Olivia, Jaydan and Dominick. Daddy loves you and misses you so much. You’ve got your dad back sober.
