NORTH MANCHESTER - Dr. Paul A. Eiler, 78, of North Manchester, died at 6:14 p.m. Jan. 18, 2009, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born Jan. 8, 1931, in Nampa, Idaho, to Austin and Edna Betts Eiler. On Aug. 30, 1953, he married Alma Morningstar, who survives.

He was a physician at Manchester Clinic for 36 years. He was on staff of Wabash County Hospital. He graduated from Nampa High School in 1949, earned a bachelor's degree from Manchester College in 1953, and graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1960. He did intern training at McLaren Hospital, Flint, Mich. He was co-founder of Manchester Clinic with the late Dr. Lloyd Smith. He served on the 5 County Mental Health Board. He was a member of the Indiana Medical Association, the Wabash County Medical Society and First Brethren Church, North Manchester, where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir.

Also surviving are a son, Gary (and spouse Randa) Eiler, West Lafayette; two daughters, Beth (and spouse Scott) Bolman, Lincolnshire, Ill., and Karen (and spouse Mike Sturgeon) Eiler, North Manchester; a sister, Anne McKellip, Nampa; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Brethren Church, North Manchester, with Pastor Kurt Stout officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Calling is from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester.
