Downtown Merchants Plan Holiday Weekend

Warsaw's Downtown Merchants Council has planned its third annual Hometown Holiday Weekend for Dec. 10 through 12, featuring carolers, carriage rides through Central Park and a Holiday Ball in the Center Lake Pavilion Friday night.

The Jolly Old Elf will hear Christmas wishes on the Kosciusko County Courthouse lawn this year and the Warsaw Parks Department has scheduled a children's Christmasfest on Saturday.

This year a crafts show will be in the former Fox Vog building.

Tickets for the Hometown Holiday Ball are $35, or $120 for a table of eight. Tickets are available at Kaleidoscope. The dance is semi-formal and features the music of the Dick Seeger band at the Center Lake Pavilion Friday night.

Q and K Carriages' white horse-drawn carriages will offer rides through the downtown area and into the illuminated Central Park. Tickets are $5 adults and $1 for children.

The U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program will be held at the National City Bank parking lot from 8 a.m. to 10 noon Dec. 11. Toys need to be new and unwrapped.

Hometown Holiday Weekend schedule: Friday: all day Christmas sales at downtown businesses, receive a 10 percent discount with coupon; 5:30 to 9 p.m. visit with Santa Claus on the courthouse lawn; 6 to 9 p.m. carriage rides through Central Park; and from 7 p.m. to midnight, Hometown Holiday Ball in Central Park Pavilion.

Saturday: all day Christmas sales at downtown businesses, receive a 10 percent discount with coupon; 8 a.m. to noon, Toys for Tots; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., craft show in the Fox Vog building; 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., visit with Santa on the courthouse lawn; noon, a Christmas movie will be shown at Lake Theatre; 1 to 4 p.m. Children's Christmasfest with the Possum Ranch Puppets performing at 1 p.m.; Bob Whitcomb, "The World's Strongest Juggler," gives his Christmas show at 2 p.m. and Santa Claus visits children at 3 p.m.; 2 to 6 p.m., carriage rides through Central Park; 6 p.m., parade of lights through downtown Warsaw; and 7 to 9 p.m., children can visit Santa on the courthouse lawn, and carriage rides will be available though Central Park.
