Douglas Leroy Mayer, 61, Warsaw, died at 9:54 p.m. Oct. 24, 2013, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born Dec. 25, 1951, in Warsaw, to Billy Austin and Donna Jeanette Osborn Mayer. On June 3, 1972, in Pierceton, he married Kristy Sue Berlin, who survives in Warsaw.
He was a research lab technologist for Zimmer Inc., Warsaw, working there from 1975 until his retirement in 2006. He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County where he was a 1970 graduate of Pierceton High School. He then attended and received his bachelor’s degree in 1974 from Grace College, Winona Lake.
He served on the supervisory committee of the Indiana Lakes Federal Credit Union, was formerly the librarian of the Genealogy Division of the Kosciusko County Historical Society, was past president of Kosciusko County Historical Society, past member of the Warsaw Community Choir, past member of the First Baptist Church, Pierceton, and was a member of Dutchtown Brethren Church, Warsaw.
He will be lovingly remembered by a son, Daniel Mayer, Milford, and a brother, Larry (and spouse Jeanne) Mayer, Plymouth. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, David Mayer, who died Oct. 10, 2001.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Jack Worth officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
