Dot Street Residents Detain Alleged Thief

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

By Staff Report-

When a Dot Street resident looked out his window Thursday night and saw a man walking along the street, he watched him for a couple of minutes.

When the suspicious man allegedly started trying the doors of cars parked along the road, the resident continued to watch.

When the suspect allegedly opened an unlocked car door and removed items from the car, the man called his neighbor to tell him something had just been stolen from his car. That neighbor called another neighbor and, soon a group of people was pursuing the alleged thief.

At 8:36 p.m., Warsaw police were notified when yet another neighbor called to report a possible large fight near the intersection of Dot and Hepler streets, where the suspect was confronted by the residents.

When police arrived, there was a lot of yelling and screaming, so everyone was ordered to the ground at gunpoint. All but one man reportedly complied with Ptl. Joe Stanley, who then forcibly took the man into custody.

Residents of the neighborhood told Stanley that the suspect dropped several items across the street prior to Stanley's arrival. A diaper bag and contents, a purse and contents, more than 30 CDs and cassette tapes and a CD adapter were recovered and returned to their rightful owners.

Antonio Silvestre, 29, of 2306 Old Road 30W, Warsaw, reportedly told Stanley that he was just borrowing the property and wasn't going to keep it.

Silvestre was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on charges of theft, resisting law enforcement and public intoxication. He is being held on $2,000 bond. [[In-content Ad]]
