INDIANAPOLIS - Dorothy Schlotzhauer Roush Sawyer, 86, of North Manchester, and Naples, Fla., and most recently a resident of Sunrise of Carmel, passed away Oct. 31, 2009.

She was born April 17, 1923, to Milton and Hilda Winteregg Schlotzhauer, Bluffton. She married Bernard Roush, who preceded her in death. In 1993, she married Dr. Roger Sawyer of North Manchester and Naples, who survives.

She graduated from Bluffton High School and attended Ball State University, where she received her associate's degree and was a member of Gamma Gamma Sorority. She resided in Muncie while working for Ball State University, ultimately retiring in 1983 after 10 years of service. She was a member of High Street Methodist Church, Muncie, where she served as an office volunteer for several years.

Also surviving are three daughters: Cynthia Swaim, Carmel; Nancy (and spouse Dale) Geiselman, Zionsville; and Ellen (and spouse Troy) Rector, Athens, Ga.; a stepson, Dr. Douglas (and spouse Peggy) Sawyer, Warsaw; six grandchildren: Megan Swaim Brewer; Laura Swaim; Erin Geiselman Atkinson; Abby Geiselman Bitney; and Matthew and Brandon Rector; three step-grandchildren, Mandy Sawyer Bailey and Aaron and Andrew Sawyer; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarabelle Heller and Ann Swisher, both of Bluffton.

The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding care and compassion provided to her by the staff at Sunrise of Carmel.

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 21 at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th St., Indianapolis.

Calling is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
