She was born June 12, 1932, in Kosciusko County, to Harvey and Fannie Slabaugh Farmwald. On July 10, 1953, in Savannah, Ga., she married Jack Tobias, who survives.
She had worked at Vitreous Steel, Nappanee, and had been a seamstress at Holiday Rambler, Blue Bell, Relaxo and Newmar. She retired in 2011 after working at Fred’s Flowers for 17 years. She was a member of First Brethren Church, Nappanee, where she had been a Sunday school teacher, a youth leader, an AWANA leader, a deaconess and a member of the WMS. At the beginning of this school year she enjoyed being a mentor at Woodview Elementary School.
Also surviving are five children: Wanda (and spouse Myron) VanderWerf and Jackie (and spouse Mike) Kupke, all of Goshen; Audrey Tobias, Nappanee; Natalie (and spouse Eric) Hochstetler, Ormond Beach, Fla.; and Matthew (and spouse Evie) Tobias, Nappanee; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Yoder, Nappanee; two brothers, Oliver Farmwald, Nappanee, and Andrew (and spouse Linda) Farmwald, Milford; four stepsisters, Erma (and spouse Loren) Troyer, Eleanor (and spouse Jay) Peachey and Kay (and spouse Dale) Schwartz, all of Nappanee, and Mary Ellen (and spouse Joni) Beachy, Bremen; and four stepbrothers, Allen (and spouse Tressie) Slabaugh, Larry (and spouse Katie) Slabaugh and Dale (and spouse Ina) Slabaugh, all of Nappanee; and Glenn (and spouse Enid) Slabaugh, Goshen.
Services will be at 10:30 Tuesday at First Brethren Church, Nappanee, with the Revs. Tom Schiefer and Bart Shaw officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
