A spokesperson for JCPenney told the Times-Union this week, however, that, "We are not exiting the print media business, and RR Donnelley continues to be a major print supplier for JCPenney.
"JCPenney will continue to market heavily to customers through print publications, but beginning in spring 2011, we will repurpose our catalogs to more targeted specialty in-store and mail pieces in order to stimulate additional demand for our stores and Internet businesses. This next phase of our enhanced strategy should not look different in the eyes of our customers, and will actually allow us to serve them better through the enterprise-wide availability of our merchandise. It marks the next step in the integration of our catalog and Internet operations that we began two years ago," said a statement released by JCPenney.
A spokesperson for RR Donnelley declined comment on the situation.
