Donald T. Hatin, 81 of South Bend, passed away at 12:50 pm, Friday, at Center for Hospice Care - Elkart Hospice House. On January 18, 1931, he was born in Glens Falls, New York to Don and Frieda (Purner) Hatin. Raised in Glens Falls, N.Y., Don also lived in Evansville, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis. On February 13, 1988 in Fort Wayne, he married Glenda Layne who survives. He graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering then began his career with Sprague Electric in North Adams, Mass. He then worked for RCA in Pennsaukey, N.J. before he moved to Fort Wayne to work for ITT Corp, building radios for the U.S. Army. He also owned several patents with RCA. After retiring from ITT Corp, Don worked for a year with United Airlines. He was of the Catholic faith, attending the Lutheran and Catholic Churches in Fort Wayne and he also attended St. Judes Catholic Church, South Bend. He was active in the Boy Scouts and was a baseball umpire. Don loved gardening and growing flowers, outdoor activities, camping and watching The History Channel. Also surviving are five children, Diana Raushi, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Donald Robert Hatin, Glens Falls, N.Y.; Darren Hatin, New Haven, Michael Todd Montgomery, Warsaw and Lori Montgomery, South Bend; one brother, Dave Hatin, South Glens Falls, N.Y.; one sister, Betty Trombley, Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with Father John DeLaney officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
