He was born March 27, 1937, in Pierceton, to Fred and Thelma Archer Sparks. On Feb. 28, 2002, in Warsaw, he married Kathryn “Katie” Unrue, who survives in Sebring, Fla.
He served in the U.S. Army and worked as a machinist at Zimmer for 22 years before retiring in 1992. He was a member of American Legion Post 258, Pierceton, and the VFW Post 4300, Sebring, Fla.
Also surviving are: a son, Donnie Jr. (and spouse Julie) Sparks, Columbia City; a daughter, Michele (and spouse Matt) Tolson, Claypool; two step-sons, Shawn (and spouse Elizabeth) Breidinger, Plainfield, and Christopher (and spouse Brenda) Breidinger, Churubusco; 11 grandchildren; and a sister, Marcele Mathys, Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Marshall Sparks, a half-brother, Duane VanCuren and two half-sisters, Mirriam Ring and Virginia Spry.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, at the corner of CR 250E and Bowser Road, Syracuse, with Pastor Chris Stahlman of South Whitley United Methodist Church officiating and military honors performed by American Legion Post 258, Pierceton.
