NORTH MANCHESTER - Donald K. Gable, 89, of North Manchester, died at 7 a.m. Feb. 5, 2011, in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

He was born Feb. 8, 1921, in Wabash County, to Arthur Eldo and Ada Humke Gable. On Nov. 14, 1943, he married Dorothy B. Gurley, who died Jan. 26, 2011.

He was a lifelong farmer, worked with Eagle Farms since 1936 and co-owned Eagle Farms after his father's retirement in 1960. He was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren, North Manchester; Farm Bureau; Wabash County Pork Producers for many years; National Camper and Hikers Association; and served two terms on the Manchester Community School Board from 1965-73. He was a private pilot. He graduated from Chester High School in 1939.

Surviving are two sons, Dennis (and spouse Judy) Gable, Elkhart, and Norman (and spouse Laura) Gable, North Manchester; a daughter, Rita Gable, Denver, Colo.; a half sister, Margaret Lambert, North Manchester; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, a brother and a sister.

Services for Donald and Dorothy Gable will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Timbercrest, Assembly Room 2201 East St., North Manchester, with Pastor Karen Eberly officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Calling is one hour prior to the service Friday at Timbercrest Assembly Room.

McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, is in charge of arrangements.
