He was born May 21, 1921, in Grand Rapids, Mich., to Casey and Irene Kaminski Bremer. On Sept. 2, 1960, at Wesley Park United Methodist Church, Wyoming, Mich., he married Ruth Gilbertson Baird, who survives. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 2, 2010, with friends and family sharing many golden memories.
He lived in Grand Rapids from 1921-2005, when he moved to North Manchester. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-52 in the Army Air Corp in the European Theater and was honorably discharged in 1952. He worked for Oliver Machinery Co. from 1960-88. He was a member of United Methodist Church and served on the Wyoming City Board of Zoning. Some of his favorite hobbies were model railroads and crossword puzzles.
Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Carol Baird (and spouse David) Ellenwood, Akron; two stepsons, Doug Baird and Tom (and spouse Nan) Baird, Los Angeles, Calif.; step-grandchildren: Matt (and spouse Susan) Ellenwood; Marc (and spouse Andrea) Ellenwood; Katie Ellenwood; Brad Ellenwood; Patrick (and spouse Nancy) Baird, Denver, Colo.; Trevor and Jason, Los Angeles; step-great-grandchildren, Miles and Ari; a nephew, Paul (and spouse Patty) Judd and family, Alto, Mich.; good friends: Jim and Bonnie Linscott, Byron Center, Mich., and Nancy Chapel, Grand Rapids, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and cousins, Eugene and Melvin Judd.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester St., Akron, officiated by Pastor Sue Babovec of Peabody Retirement Community and with military rites. Burial will be at a later date in Grandville Cemetery, Mich.
Calling is one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
