MILFORD - Donald H. Beer Sr., 88, of Syracuse, died at 12:03 a.m. Aug. 23, 2009, in Goshen General Hospital.

He was born Nov. 3, 1920, in Milford, to Andrew J. and Bertha Moseman Beer. On May 24, 1943, he married Ruth Rarig, who survives.

He was a lifetime area resident and was a member of Milford Apostolic Christian Church. After graduating from Milford High School in 1939, he joined the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was a local farmer for many years and was a former director of Albion PCA. After retirement he would keep busy with his flower garden, waterfalls and wood working. He always stayed busy. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and loved being with his family.

Also surviving are five children: Carol (and spouse Dane) Rumfelt and Don Jr. (and spouse Nancy) Beer, all of Goshen; Joyce (and spouse Dan) Nickelson, Richmond; and Jim (and spouse Debbie) Beer and Jack (and spouse Donna) Beer, Milford; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Milford Apostolic Christian Church with Nelson Beer officiating. Burial will be in Milford Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Milford.
