He was born Oct. 12, 1923, in Nappanee, to Clayton and Hazel DeFrees Stump. On Feb. 22, 1942, in Nappanee, he married Eloise Tobias, who died Jan. 3, 2003.
A lifetime area resident, he was a retired farmer and built truck campers. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Philippines, and receiving the Philippine Liberation Medal. He was a member of First Brethren Church, Nappanee American Legion and AMVETS.
Surviving are three sons, Rodney (and spouse Maribeth) Stump, Mark (and spouse Ronda) Stump and Clark (and spouse Kay) Stump, all of Nappanee; a daughter, Judith (and spouse John) Klotz, Nappanee; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale (and spouse Glenice) Stump, Milford; and close friend and companion, Betty Searfoss, Nappanee.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at First Brethren Church, Nappanee, with the Rev. Tom Schiefer officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bart Shaw. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery with a military graveside service by members of Nappanee American Legion.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
