He was born in Cass County to Carl and Leone Bunnell Koons. On Dec. 21, 1979, he married Marsha Renfroe Cloud, who survives.
He spent 15 years in the U.S. Air Force. He was an instructor for the flight control systems for nine years and then went to Okinawa as a missile systems analyst. He later transferred to cryptographic repairman school. After leaving the U.S. Air Force in 1972, he worked for various instrument companies. In 1981 he became a field representative for Fisher and Porter, Indianapolis. Then in 1985, Fisher and Porter transferred him to Kalamazoo, Mich., where they spent 19 years until his retirement in 2004. In 2004 he returned to Rochester to be close to family. He was a lifetime member of American Legion and Am Vets. He was a Golden Age of the Eagles.
Also surviving are two daughters, Pamela Hammel, Rochester, and Donna Koons, Texas; four sons: Keith Koons, Texas; and Mike Cloud (and spouse Laura), Jeff Cloud (and spouse Deb) and Ty (and spouse Rita) Cloud, all of Rochester; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Barnett, Rochester. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Military rites will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester. Burial will be in Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
Calling is one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home.
