He was born April 21, 1915, in Jackson Township, Kosciusko County, to Ford and Elizabeth Miller Landis. On June 3, 1933, he married Catheryn Spann, who died Nov. 14, 1985. On April 5, 1988, he married Edna E. Walters, who survives.
He was the manager of Liberty Mills Sale Barn and later was a founding owner of Claypool Sale Barn and the Steer Inn Restaurant, Silver Lake. He was a retired real estate broker and worked as a clerk for Eldon Metzger Auctioneering. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1932. He was a volunteer with Heifer Project International and a member of First Brethren Church, North Manchester. He sang with the Chain-O-Lakes Chorus.
Also surviving are two stepsons, Mike Walters, Haines City, Fla., and Todd Walters, Silver Lake; three daughters: Mrs. Derwood (Diane) Coe, North Manchester; Mrs. Max (JoAnne) Pingleton, Russiaville; Mrs. Jerry (Kadonna) Holderman, Columbia City; a sister, Doris Spann, North Manchester; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, two brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Timbercrest Chapel, North Manchester, with the Revs. Byron Miller and John Whitcraft officiating. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, and from 9 a.m. until the service at the chapel Wednesday.
