Sixteen teams played, but the final two teams in the championship game Thursday night were the same ones in the championship game from 2009.

But this year's corporate dodgeball game had a different ending, and the event set an all-time record.

When the last ball flew, it was Symmetry Medical that claimed the 2010 first-place trophy. The team bounced Biomet, the 2009 winners, to claim bragging rights for the next year.

Members on the No. 1 team included Ryan Scherzer, Brenden Hart, Patrick Carroll, Tyler Linn, Derek Freds, James Stoddard, Ivan Castillo and Jeremy Brock.

The annual dodgeball tournament is a Bowen Center fundraiser for the United Way. In its sixth year, it was held at Lakeview Middle School.

Bowen Center Corporate Services Director Tim Nussbaum reported this morning that Thursday's games set an all-time record. The dodgeball tournament raised $4,111.

Along with first-place team Symmetry Medical, and runners-up Biomet, the other 14 teams that competed included Black Concrete, Akzo Nobel, Silveus Insurance, SYM Financial, Paragon Medical, R&B Car Co., Chore-Time Brock (with two teams), Lake City Bank, Mutual Bank, City of Warsaw, Medtronic, Zimmer and DePuy.

One team each year is presented an award for "best dressed". This year, that team was Medtronic, who wore black and surgical masks.

The Biggest Hit Award last night didn't go to a player, but a Warsaw Community High School cheerleader who just happened to be in the right (or wrong) place at the right (or wrong) time, depending how you looked at it.

The WCHS cheerleading squads were on hand at the dodgeball tournament, volunteering their time throughout the night.

Also on hand was Blue, the Indianapolis Colts mascot. For the halftime show, all the mascots at the event, including Blue, took on two groups of kids and the cheerleading team. The mascots lost in all three games. Children got to participate in the dodgeball game for a $5 donation to the United Way.

107.3 WRSW and Willie 103.5 had live remotes from the event, while Nussbaum served as emcee.[[In-content Ad]]
