Diercks, ML Motorsports 24th In Busch Race

FORT WORTH, Texas - Making their third NASCAR Busch Series start of the season, Justin Diercks and his Warsaw-based ML Motorsports team scored their third top-25 finish of the season Saturday.

[[In-content Ad]]Driving his silver No. 70 Mary Louise Miller-owned Chevy, the 26-year-old Diercks, a Davenport, Iowa native, qualified 38th and finished 24th in the O'Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. In their other two starts this season, Diercks and Team 70 finshed 22nd at Las Vegas and 24th at Nashville.

Diercks and Team 70 have plans to run 15 more Busch Series races this season, the next one being April 28 at Talladega Superspeedway.

In Saturday's 43-car race at Texas, the top 11 finishers were full-time Nextel Cup drivers, while Mark Martin, who after 20-plus years of Cup competition is driving a part-time schedule this year, finshed 12th.

Matt Kenseth led the final nine laps of the race, followed in the top five by Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards, Casey Mears and pole-sitter David Ragan.

David Reutimann finished sixth, while Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Paul Menard and Jeff Burton rounded out the top 10. Kevin Harvick, the 2006 Busch Series champion, finished 11th.

With the 24th-place finish, Diercks jumped four spots and is now 49th in points, having run just three of eight races this season. There are 27 more races on the Busch Series schedule for 2007.

Diercks is just 82 points out of the top 40.

The top six drivers in the point standings are full-time Nextel Cup drivers.

Edwards holds a 403-point lead over current runner-up Dave Blaney. Harvick, Kyle Busch and Reutimann round out the top five in the current season point standings.

Following the April 28 race at Talladega, Diercks and ML Motorsports have plans to compete at Richmond International Raceway on May 4.
