DFR Office To Move

The Kosciusko County branch of the Indiana Division of Family Resources will relocate as part of a statewide initiative to modernize the state welfare system.

According to DFR Director Zach Main, the office will move from its current location at 205 N. Lake St., Warsaw, to 2307 E. Center St., Warsaw.[[In-content Ad]]Main said the new location will be better suited to the new way in which the office will make services available to the public.

The local DFR office is where local residents can apply for food stamps, Medicaid and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

According to Main, about 14,000 people are served through the Kosciusko County DFR office.

Until now, Main said, almost all services had to be applied for and administered face-to-face. That meant those in need had to visit the office in person and meet with a case worker specifically assigned to them.

The state modernization initiative means many of those services will be available to the public through Internet or telephone communication.

Main said clients often have very few vacation days or free hours from work in which they can come into the local office. He said modernization is aimed at easing and improving access.

The state DFR is rolling out the modernization initiative gradually throughout the state. Main said two regions already have been modernized and Kosciusko County is part of the third.

Main said, in some cases, clients will still have to visit the local office. Also, he said, clients without telephone or internet access or those with physical or mental disabilities will be able to continue receiving the same services through face-to-face visits to the office.

The relocation will mean a change in the number of employees stationed at the Kosciusko County office. Main said the office staff will be reduced from 12 to seven.

Main said the DFR office has taken steps to notify clients of the move through posters and mailed notices. He said they also partnered with local organizations to inform the public of the changes.
