He was born April 13, 1930, in East Point, Ky., to Tom and Katie Spencer Yates. He married Bethel Gibson, who died in 1990. On Oct. 26, 1990, he married Josephine Reffitt Ousley Haywood.
Living in Warsaw for 59 years, he was a layer manager at Creighton Brothers Inc., Warsaw, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Water of Life Church, Silver Lake.
Surviving are five children: Geneva Clay, Regina Ousley and Burnis Ray Ousley, all of Warsaw; Oneda Boakye, Fort Worth, Texas; Ronald G. Ousley, Claypool; two brothers, Denvil L. Yates, Rochester, and Bennie Yates, Prestonsburg, Ky.; three sisters: Dorothy Singer, North Manchester; Martha Floyd, Akron; Dora McConnell, Prestonsburg; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, four brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pentecostal Lighthouse Church, Warsaw, with Pastor Henry Arnett Jr. and Glen Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a church service at 7 p.m.
McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
