BOURBON – DeVon Sponseller, 95, lifetime resident of Etna Green, passed away at 8:35 a.m. Feb. 14, 2014, in Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home of Fort Wayne.
He was born Jan. 6, 1919, to Dale W. and Josie Spindler Sponseller. On Sept. 28, 1941, he married Ruth L. Neff, who died Sept. 17, 2002.
He was a graduate of Etna Green High School class of 1937. After retiring from farming, he enjoyed his time with his friends at the local Etna Green Café or wherever he could find a fresh cup of coffee.
Surviving are two daughters, Diana (and spouse Clyde) Poppe, and Bonnie (and spouse Terry) Fairfield, both of Fort Wayne. He was further blessed with his granddaughter, Christa (and spouse Alfred) Brothers III; three great-grandchildren: Kody, Caleb and Jayden; and one step-great-great-granddaughter, Ebony. Also preceding him in death were his parents.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, with Pastor Gary Endersby of The Chapel, Fort Wayne, officiating. Burial is in Etna Green Cemetery.
Calling is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
