Details Released In Death Of Leesburg Couple

The Kosciusko County Coroner's Office has identified two Leesburg individuals found dead at their residence yesterday morning. Michael L. Habegger, 51, and Loretta A. Habegger, 51, were discovered inside their residence at 2797 W. CR 700N, Leesburg, at approximately 9:46 a.m. Thursday by family members.[[In-content Ad]]Loretta's body was found in a bed. Michael was found nearby in the same bedroom.
Contact had not been made with the Habeggers by family members, and Michael hadn't been at work all week and hadn't been seen since Monday. Police were unsure when the deaths occurred.
Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department deputies and detectives arrived at the Leesburg, address and secured the scene until the Kosciusko County Coroner's Office arrived. Kosciusko County Coroner John Sadler determined that Loretta was the victim of a homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Michael was pronounced dead from the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to Sadler, autopsies were scheduled for this morning in Fort Wayne at the forensic center.
A fire at the residence was reported to dispatch shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday.
Police were burning the bed in which Loretta was found after removing it from the home. A gust of wind caused the fire to spread.
Plain Township Fire Department was called and put out the blaze.
The investigation is continuing.
