DePuy To Cut Close To 2 Percent of Workforce Globally

Lorie Gawreluk, vice president of worldwide communications, told the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette that the workforce reduction affects less than 2 percent of the company’s 23,000 employees internationally. She declined to provide details on the impact the job changes would have on the approximately 1,200 DePuy employees in Warsaw, but said the changes affect “many sites and areas of our business” globally.
She also said the company is adding about 80 new positions, though did not say how many, if any, will be in Warsaw.
DePuy is also expected to begin paying to settle thousands of lawsuits over a recalled hip implant.
In a May 20 federal court filing, DePuy waived its right to walk away from an approximately $2.5 billion agreement it announced in November to settle close to 8,000 lawsuits over its ASR hip implant. The company had issued a global recall of 93,000 ASR hip implants in 2010 because of complications with many of the devices.[[In-content Ad]]
