He was born Dec. 2, 1941, in Lockport, N.Y., to Ralph E. and Opal M. Obenour Dolby. On June 12, 1965, in Huntington, he was united in marriage to Ruth Minniear, who survives.
He was a 1960 graduate of Huntington High School. After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. In 1984 he retired from the Huntington City Police Department as a detective captain after 20 years of service. He then went to work for the State of Indiana Welfare Department as a child abuse investigator. In 1989 he moved to Warsaw to work as vice president of collections at Lake City Bank in Warsaw. He was a member of the FOP Lodge of Huntington. He was an exceptional father, husband, grandfather and friend.
Also surviving are a son, Jeff Dolby, Huntington; a daughter, Dawn Marie (and Frankie Nelson) Dolby, Chicago; a brother, Pauldene Dolby, Markle; four grandchildren: Blake Dolby, Carlos Dolby, Jayden Dolby and Destiny Dolby; and devoted sidekick Bear. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Dolby, and a sister, Marjorie Karst.
Services will be at noon Saturday at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington.
Calling is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home.
